“Strong Heart of the North Wind”

This weathered Ford farm truck, lettered Songadeewin of Keewaydin, carries with it both history and resilience. Songadeewin translates to “strong heart,” while Keewaydin means “north wind.” Together, the words echo the spirit of Vermont—strength that endures through time, and a steady resilience shaped by the rugged northern landscape.

I came across this truck on my way home to Island Pond from Lake Willoughby, parked in a wide open field as if resting in the sun. Its faded paint and rusting frame tell of long service, yet it stands proud, reminding me of the way Vermont itself weathers the years: enduring, practical, and full of character.

Much like the people of this region, the truck is a symbol of resilience—proof that what lasts, even when worn, carries a deeper kind of beauty.
